Why I'm a Big Fan of Octoplus Rewards
Published date: October 2026
As a EnergyCoop (previously called Your Co-op Energy) customer, one of the perks I didn't fully appreciate when I first signed up was that I'm also eligible for Octoplus, Octopus Energy's rewards programme.
Now, I'll admit it. I joined thinking it might be one of those "earn a point here, redeem a point there" schemes that sounds exciting but never really delivers.
I was wrong.
The Reward Scheme That's Actually Fun
Most loyalty schemes involve carrying another card in your wallet or collecting points so slowly that retirement arrives before your reward does.
Octoplus is refreshingly different.
It's built into the Octopus app and gives eligible customers access to rewards, giveaways, discounts, free electricity sessions and my personal favourite...
The Wheel of Fortune
Every month, Octoplus members can spin the Wheel of Fortune and win Octopoints. You are guaranteed to win points every time, but there's always the tiny possibility you'll hit the jackpot and land a huge prize. It's fun and takes about three seconds.
It's not life-changing money, but it's one of those little moments that makes you smile. And let's be honest, how often can you say your energy supplier gives you a game to play?
Free Coffee? Don't Mind If I Do
One of the most popular Octoplus perks is the regular free hot drink offers.
Depending on availability, members can claim free drinks from places like Greggs and Caffè Nero. It's a nice little bonus that turns a routine coffee stop into a free treat.
Unlocking the New "Weekend Happy Hours"
Octopus has just introduced a brand new, limited-time perk running until 1st November 2026 called Weekend Happy Hours. It takes the concept of shifting energy and turns it into a direct reward for your weekend chores.
The deal is straightforward: if you successfully opt into and reduce your electricity usage during two weekday "Power Down" sessions, you unlock one hour of completely free electricity over the weekend.
Here is how to make it work for you:
- Opt In: Look out for the Power Down email invites or app alerts during the week and make sure to click accept.
- Shift the Load: Use less electricity than your normal baseline during those weekday tea-time slots.
- Book Your Slot: Once you successfully complete two sessions, head to your dashboard on Thursday. You get to choose a midday Sunday slot that actually suits your schedule, rather than being forced into a fixed window.
- Fill Your Boots: During your chosen Happy Hour, all the electricity you use is 100% free up to a massive 16kWh cap. That is easily enough to run your most power-hungry appliances, like the washing machine and tumble dryer, all at once.
If you are a tech-forward household utilizing solar panels or home batteries, you can still play along. Exporting extra power during the weekday sessions counts toward your goals, and you can bank your free hours for cloudy days when your solar system isn't producing as much.
Note for Scottish Customers: Because Scotland generates a vast amount of clean wind power, the grid rarely needs you to power down. To keep things fair, Octopus will automatically award Scottish homes up to two free "stamps" a week so you can enjoy the free weekend power without the weekday restrictions.
So What Are Octopoints?
Think of them as Octopus's reward currency.
You earn Octopoints through things like:
- Spinning the Wheel of Fortune
- Taking part in Saving Sessions
- Joining special events
- Referring friends
You can then convert your points into account credit, donate them to charity, or spend them on selected rewards. Octopus currently values 800 Octopoints at £1 of account credit.
Why This Matters as a EnergyCoop Customer
One of the things I like most is that I don't have to choose between co-operative values and modern rewards.
Through EnergyCoop, I can support a co-operative energy provider and initiatives like the Community Power Tariff, while also benefiting from Octoplus rewards through the partnership with Octopus Energy. It's a great combination of community-focused energy, stellar customer service, and genuine financial perks.
Quick FAQs

- No. Octoplus is free for eligible customers.
Can EnergyCoop customers join?
- Yes. EnergyCoop customers supplied through the Octopus platform can access Octoplus provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Do I need a smart meter and Direct Debit?
- Yes. To track your half-hourly usage for both the weekday reductions and the weekend free hours, you must have a working electricity smart meter and pay via Direct Debit or prepayment.

- No. Octoplus is available across standard and smart tariffs, provided you meet the eligibility requirements.
Is the Wheel of Fortune really worth spinning?
- Absolutely. It takes seconds and you're guaranteed points every spin.
How much value can I get?
- The rewards vary throughout the year, but Octopus says members had access to over £300 of value across the year through rewards, perks and events.
Final Thoughts
I never expected my energy supplier to provide free coffees, cinema offers, and a customized hour of free weekend power just for shifting a bit of household admin away from peak times.
If you're an EnergyCoop customer and you have a smart meter, I'd highly recommend taking five minutes to sign up for Octoplus on the Octopus app or via their website. At the very least, you'll get the satisfaction of spinning that monthly wheel—and your weekend laundry cycles might just be completely on the house.
